Bud Hammer of Atlantic Westchester dies
Bud Hammer, president of Atlantic Westchester, a leading commercial and industrial HVAC and energy efficiency company headquartered in Bedford Hills that was founded in 1961, has died according to United Way of Westchester and Putnam (UWWP). The organization paid tribute to Hammer in an announcement June 15. He had joined UWWP’s board in 2018 after being the honoree for its annual golf outing in 2017. He served as the organization’s board chairman from 2020 to 2022.
At the time of his joining the UWWP board, Hammer said, “I am honored to serve on the board at United Way of Westchester and Putnam. United Way is an excellent organization that helps individuals in our communities thrive and become more self-sufficient through enhanced programs and resources. It is a privilege to work with the entire United Way team and help be a part of the change for our neighbors.”
UWWP noted that when Covid hit, Hammer and the Atlantic Westchester staff helped United Way with its Emergency Food Distribution in Putnam County and its Heroes and Homebound Hot Meals Delivery Program.
In 2017, Atlantic Westchester received a Family Owned Business Award from the Business Journals. At that time, the company was planning to further expansion into the New York City market including Manhattan, Queens and Bronx in addition to Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield counties.
In 2019, Atlantic Westchester acquired PE Controls, a Westchester-based commercial HVAC service and temperature control provider.
Bud Hammer is survived by his wife and business partner, Lisa.
