BREAKING NEWS: Debris field discovered in search for missing submersible

The U.S. Coast Guard says that a debris field has been discovered by an underwater remotely operated vehicle near the Titanic at the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean. The search for signs of the missing submersible with five people on board that was on a mission to the wreckage of the Titanic has been underway since contact with the submersible was lost on Sunday.

The Coast Guard says that the finding is being evaluated by experts. Coast Guard officials plan to hold a news conference this afternoon. Rear Adm. John Mauger, the First Coast Guard District commander, and Capt. Jamie Frederick, the First Coast Guard District response coordinator are expected to meet with reporters at the Coast Guard base in Boston. A Canadian remotely operated vehicle had been searching the ocean floor near the wreckage of the Titanic. French searchers also had launched a robotic underwater vessel.
