New York, Connecticut are among states with highest-paid tech workers
A new study by NoDepositCasino.guide has analyzed salaries for technology careers in all 50 states to reveal which states pay tech workers the most, and New York and Connecticut are top 10.
Using data from Indeed, Skillcrush, Simplilearn, Forbes and the U.S. Economic Development Administration, No Deposit Casino analyzed nearly 75 job titles, averaging the highest- and lowest-paying jobs to reveal the best- and worst-paying states.
California, home of Silicon Valley, is the unsurprising top finisher, with an average salary of $116,333.69. The best-paying tech job title in California is a software engineering manager, where people can earn, on average, $180,530.77 per year. This is compared to the lowest-paying tech job, content strategist, which pays on averag, $52,730.51 per year.
On the other hand, West Virginia, where tech workers earn an average salary of $113,091.54, is a surprising second. West Virginia, however, has not only a thriving tech industry but offices for numerous federal agencies that offer tech roles, including NASA and the U.S. Departments of Defense and the Treasury. The highest-paying tech job is a full stack developer, which pays up to $480,147.01 annually. A content manager is the lowest-paying tech role in West Virginia, with an annual salary of $36,779.80.
Ranking third is the state of Washington, where those who work in tech earn an average of $110,760.43 annually. However, Forbes noted that despite Washington’s third-place finish, 6% of its population works in tech, compared to California, where only 4% of its population does. The best-paying tech job in Washington is a software engineering manager, which pays,on average $191,705.89 a year, compared to a business intelligence analyst – the lowest-paying job, which pays $52,262.85 per year.
Maryland ranks fourth, with an average tech salary of $110,357.78 annually. The best-paying tech job in Maryland is a blockchain engineer, which pays $166,298.59 per year. Maryland’s lowest-paying tech job is a database manager, which pays on average $53,226.92 per year.
In fifth place is Massachusetts, where those who work in tech earn on average $109,362.93 a year. The highest-paying tech job is software engineering manager at $177,242.32 a year, while the lowest-paying tech job, social media manager, pays up to $56,933.10 a year.
Ranking sixth is New York, where the average annual tech salary is $108,237.07. New York’s tech scene is booming, with the Financial Times reporting a 142% increase in tech jobs over the past 10 years. The highest-paying tech job in New York is a blockchain engineer, which pays on average $191,248.42 annually. This is compared to the lowest-paying role, a WordPress developer, which pays $51,331.71 annually.
Rounding out the top 10 are Virginia in seventh place, with an average annual salary of $107,716.78; New Hampshire in eighth place, with an average yearly salary of $106,442.36; Colorado in ninth place, with an average annual salary of $105,598.49, and Connecticut in 10th place, with an average yearly salary of $104,884.66. The highest-paying tech job in the Nutmeg State is Cloud architect.
At the other end of the scale, South Dakota ranks as the worst state to work in tech, with the average annual salary being $87,289.67, the lowest across the nation. That said, the highest-paid tech job role in South Dakota is a Python developer, which pays $199,941.56. The lowest-paying tech job in South Dakota is a user interface designer, which pays $28,421.81 annually.
Kentucky, where workers in tech earn an average of $88,530.55 a year, ranks 49th, with North Dakota, with an average tech salary of $89,174.21 annually, at 48th.
“Due to the increased popularity of tech careers, these findings are remarkable for deciphering which states are great to help kickstart a career in tech,” said Laura Simpson of No Deposit Casino. “(The study) also highlights many other epicenters for tech rather than California or New York, which are oversaturated with tech start-ups and big tech brands such as Apple, Meta and Google.
