CBIA provides guide for Connecticut primaries

The Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) has published a guide to voting in Connecticut’s 2024 set for August 13. Early voting started on August 5 at select polling places, but on August 13 all polling places will be open for registered Democrats and Republicans in areas with ongoing primaries.

In addition to some municipal positions, voters registered to either party will have the chance to decide which candidate they want to run in the general election in November. In some districts dominated by one party or the other the primary is more likely to unseat an incumbent than the general election.

Fairfield county primary races include State Senate Districts 22 and 23 where registered Democrats will be able to choose between candidates hoping to represent a section of Bridgeport, Monroe, and Trumbull, and a section of Bridgeport and Stratford respectively. District 22 was represented by Marilyn Moore who decided not to seek reelection, leading to a four way primary.

Democrats in districts in Danbury, Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Stamford will be deciding who will run for the Connecticut General Assembly as well. In a number of these races the party has endorsed primary challengers over their incumbents.

Fairfield Republicans will need to think more about national politics, and decide between whether Matthew Corey or party endorsed Gerry Smith should challenge Chris Murphy for the position as one of Connecticut’s senators.

Michael Goldstein and Bob MacGuffie, who holds the party endorsement, are competing for the chance to unseat Jim Himes in CT Congressional District 4.
