Urban League of Southern Connecticut receives $10K donation from First Niagara

The Urban League of Southern Connecticut, based in Norwalk, has received a $10,000 donation from First Niagara Financial Group to support its ongoing Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP).

“The Urban League”™s UYEP program bridges the gap between basic education and occupational skills for youth who often experience significant barriers to succeeding in the community,” said Urban League President and CEO Valarie Shultz-Wilson.

The program is a 12-month series of work readiness and life skills workshops that provide people ages 14-21 with the skills to prepare them for entry-level employment, internships and higher education. The program also strives to give students a basic understanding of banking and financial literacy.

First Niagara will be recognized for its diversity initiatives and contributions to the community at the Urban League of Southern Connecticut Equal Opportunity Day Gala on May 19.
