New details emerge on Darien financier killed in fall from Manhattan rooftop bar

Dale Chaney, the 46-year-old founder and general partner of the Darien-based private equity firm T-street Capital who jumped to his death from a Manhattan rooftop bar on Jan. 25, was facing criminal charges stemming from a domestic dispute.

According to a New York Post report, Cheney was arrested on Jan. 16 at his New Canaan home and was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors. He was released on a $25,000 bond and his wife, Lauren Cheney, obtained a restraining order against him following his arrest.

In 2008, when the couple was living in Manhattan, the police were twice called to their residence for domestic disputes that were reportedly related to finances; the couple relocated to New Canaan in 2010. Cheney filed for divorce on Jan. 23, two days before his death.

Lauren Cheney is a real estate broker with William Pitt Sotheby”™s International Realty. The couple married in 2000 and have five children.

Cheney”™s family published an obituary that offered greater detail on his life, including his undergraduate degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and his two-year missionary work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cordoba, Argentina. Lauren Cheney is described in the obituary as “the love of his life” and “his loving wife.”
