Foreclosure prevention program to receive $11.5 million
As part of a statewide effort to invest in communities hit hard by the recession, New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has announced $11.5 million in funding to support the Homeowner Protection Program.
The money will go to 28 counseling and legal services, including Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and Legal Services of Rockland County, that help families avoid losing their homes, officials in Schneiderman”™s office said.
The homeowner program funding, which is pending approval by state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, is the latest investment, in addition to the $70 million already spent, to prevent foreclosures.
The Homeowner Protection Program has also received $100 million of settlement money from cases with big banks following the market collapse.
