German carrier testing viability of Stewart Airport-to-Frankfurt route

Eurowings Discover, the budget carrier division of the German airline Lufthansa, will be conducting test routes at New York Stewart International Airport this fall to determine the viability of establishing regular flights between the Hudson Valley airport and Frankfurt.

According to a report in SimplyFlying.com, Eurowings Discover will conduct its flights on Sept. 23, Oct. 7, Oct. 17 and Oct. 26, with its aircraft remaining on the apron at Stewart for just over two hours before returning home. The airline will deploy its Airbus A330-300 on the route.

Currently, Stewart is hosting two European carriers ”“ the low-cost carrier Play that provides weekly flights to Iceland and Atlantic Airways, which offers seasonal flights to the Faroe Islands beginning Aug. 22.
