Partnership with Rangers brings new ice rink to Valhalla

As part of a new partnership with the New York Rangers, the Westchester County Parks Department recently announced the addition of an expanded ice rink at Westchester’s Winter Wonderland at Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla.

Officials said the rink will be similar in size to the ice rink at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan.

Westchester’s Winter Wonderland, which is sponsored by Westchester Medical Center and the Rangers this year, runs from Nov. 27 to Jan. 3. The annual event began last year and includes ice skating, light shows, food and shopping and other attractions at Kensico Dam Plaza. New attractions are expected to be added this year.

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino, Friends of Westchester County Parks and the Westchester County Parks Department held an announcement and naming ceremony for the ice rink alongside former Rangers players Dave Maloney and Ron Greschner Monday at Kensico Dam Plaza.

Others in attendance at the ceremony included Westchester Knicks General Manager and former New York Knicks guard Allan Houston, Westchester County Parks Commissioner Kathleen O’Connor and representatives from Westchester Medical Center.
