NFL bowls over Big Apple
The NFL will hold the 2014 Super Bowl at new Meadowlands arena in East Rutherford, N.J., setting up both a superheated marketing opportunity for tri-state area businesses as well as the possibility of a championship game played in frigid conditions.
Miami and Tampa, Fla. were also vying for the game.
The owners of the New York Giants and New York Jets are currently completing a new, $1.6 billion stadium in east Rutherford to replace Giants Stadium and have yet to sell naming rights for the venue. The new stadium will not have a roof, making sub-zero Super Bowl game time temperatures both a possibility and a first. (Detroit has hosted the big game, but under a dome.)
The new stadium can accommodate more than 82,500 people and has more than 200 luxury suites, making it the second largest NFL stadium after FedEx Field in Maryland.
