New TV show aims to fill Westchester’s comedy void

A new improv comedy show is hitting LMC-TV, the Larchmont and Mamaroneck public access station.

“The Drop Your Jaw Improv,” the brain child of a group of young comedians and the owner of The Westchester Sandbox Theatre, premieres Friday at 11 p.m. After the initial broadcast of the episode, it will be available via online video services.

Jovan C. Richards, the group”™s producer, said he got the idea to form an improv group to fill what he felt was a comedic void in Westchester County. Richards is an engineer at WVOX Radio in New Rochelle.

“Every time I hear comedy, I think of improv,” he said. “And every time I hear improv, I automatically think of ”˜Whose Line is it Anyway?”™ which is what I had in mind when moving forward with auditions and creating a team that could bring a new sense and scene of comedy to Westchester.”

The group formed last year with the collaboration of Daniel Ferrante, owner of the Sandbox Theatre in Mamaroneck.

“Their brand of comedy is new and fresh while still honoring some of the comedy legends,” he said. The Sandbox Theatre puts on 10 shows a year, most focused on family presentations and children actors.
