An interactive journey into Ridgefield’s agricultural history
Ridgefield”™s Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center”™s is presenting its annual #HandsOnHistory interactive exhibit and program series that showcase objects from the museum”™s extensive tool collection and explore intersections of history, science, and technology.
This year, #HandsOnHistory”™s theme is “Living Off the Land,” exploring the agricultural heritage of Ridgefield through the tools farmers used in the 18th and 19th centuries to produce food for their families and community. The exhibit details the farming cycle, from preparing soil to planting seeds to harvesting and processing crops, as well as the impact that dramatic climate and weather fluctuations had locally, and visitors are encouraged to handle display items with “Try Me” signs and follow self-directed activities for hands-on exploration of how science and history overlap.
The exhibition, located at the site”™s historic carriage barn, opens today and runs through Nov. 5. Family talks ”“ featuring special guest experts and demonstrations ”“ will begin on weekends in October and visitors can get free site admission every Sunday from Oct. 1 to Nov. 5.
More information is available at the museum”™s website.
