United Rentals Inc. ended its CEO rental, installing Michael Kneeland as its permanent chief executive officer, with Kneeland having led the company on an interim basis since June 2007.
Kneeland replaced Wayland Hicks, a former Xerox Corp. executive who became CEO of United Rentals in 2003.
Kneeland joined United Rentals as a district manager in 1998 after the acquisition of Equipment Supply Co. He was named chief operating officer of United Rentals in 2007.
The Greenwich-based company runs a chain of construction and landscaping equipment rental stores. In the second quarter, United Rentals had $37 million in net income on $831 million in revenue, down from $67 million and $962 million a year earlier.
