Fordham University last week inaugurated its Executive Education Program at its new Westchester campus with a course offering a time-honored mix of business and pleasure. “Conquering the Course: Maximize Your Business and Golf Performance” takes studious professionals from the classroom to the tee with a teacher who”™s a seasoned pro at both the art of managing a putt and the art of business management.
The three-session course includes morning instruction in time management and managing for results at Fordham”™s 400 Westchester Ave. campus in West Harrison, followed by nine-hole rounds of instructional golf at Hollow Brook Golf Club in Cortlandt Manor. The instructor is Patrick Montana, a certified master golf teaching professional and author of 27 books in the fields of management and marketing. Montana has been a visiting professor of management at Fordham”™s Graduate School of Business Administration.
“There are many similarities in management and golf, as well as in teaching management and golf,” he said. “Both require strategic thinking, planning, execution, control, evaluation and feedback. Given golf”™s popularity and global reach as well as its multibillion-dollar market, we are constantly seeking ways to nurture this vibrant sport and make it and our business more efficient and effective.”
“It sure seems like a big advantage if you know how to swing a golf club,” said Ron Jacobson, executive director of academic programs at Fordham Westchester, “and how to use golf strategies and risk-taking concepts in business to stay in the green.” Jacobson said he plans to sign up for the course next semester.
Opened in September, the Westchester campus is home to Fordham”™s adult undergraduate program as well as the graduate schools of social service, religion and religious education, education and business administration.
