Open Door Family Medical Center, one of the largest health-care providers for low-income people in Westchester and Putnam counties, has been awarded a $17,360 grant from The Children’s Dream Foundation. The grant will support the purchase of essential pediatric medical equipment for Open Door’s two newly renovated health centers in Ossining.
The grant funds critical pediatric measurement and vaccine storage equipment, including stadiometers for height measurement, digital scales, infant scales, infantometers, and vaccine freezers. This equipment will enhance Open Door’s ability to provide high-quality preventive care and monitor the growth and development of its youngest patients.
“This generous grant from The Children’s Dream Foundation will help ensure that our pediatric patients receive the highest standard of care in our newly renovated facilities,” said Lindsay Farrell, president and CEO of Open Door Family Medical Center. “The new equipment will support our medical team in delivering precise growth monitoring and vaccine storage, which are essential components of pediatric preventive care.”
The equipment will be installed in Open Door’s two Ossining locations, which are currently undergoing extensive renovations as part of a larger transformation of downtown Ossining. The renovated facilities will increase access to health-care services for the community’s most vulnerable populations, with Open Door projecting to serve nearly 100,000 patients annually by 2040.
Open Door cared for over 16,500 pediatric patients across all sites in 2023, with nearly 6,200 children receiving care in Ossining alone. The organization provides comprehensive health-care services, including medical, dental, behavioral health and vision care, as well as supportive services through its main facilities and school-based health centers.
The Children’s Dream Foundation’s support contributes to Open Door’s mission of providing quality, affordable health care to the community, particularly focusing on low-income, under-served residents and those lacking access to health care.
For more than 50 years, Open Door has provided accessible, high-quality health-care and wellness services, regardless of a patient’s ability to pay. It offers family medicine, dental services, behavioral health care, women’s health, including obstetrics, vision services, insurance enrollment assistance and operates health centers in Ossining, Brewster, Mamaroneck, Mount Kisco, Sleepy Hollow and Port Chester, and a dental site in Saugerties. Additionally, it runs a mobile dental van and nine school-based health centers in the Ossining, Port Chester and Webutuck, New York, school districts.
The Children’s Dream Foundation is dedicated to supporting health-care initiatives that benefit children. Through strategic grant-making, the foundation helps health-care organizations enhance their capacity to serve pediatric patients and improve health outcomes for children in their communities.
