Westchester Parks Foundation (WPF) and the Westchester County Parks Department were joined by Westchester Deputy County Executive Ken Jenkins at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla on Friday, Nov. 27 to celebrate the opening of Westchester”™s Winter Wonderland Drive-Thru Holiday Light Extravaganza.
Thanks to the event”™s presenting sponsor, Westchester Medical Center Health Network, Jenkins and Westchester Parks Foundation welcomed a special child to light the tree, nine-year-old Mount Vernon resident Jorden Hutchens, who made a miraculous recovery after contracting Covid-19 and suffering from a life-threatening complication of the virus. Jorden was treated at Maria Fareri Children”™s Hospital in May for multi-system inflammatory syndrome, an illness seen in pediatric patients related to the coronavirus infection. Robison Oil was the sponsor of the tree-lighting ceremony.
Proceeds from this event benefit WPF and allow the organization to further its mission to advocate for and invest in the preservation, conservation, use and enjoyment of the 18,000 acres of parks, trails and open spaces within the Westchester County Parks system.
