SUMMARY:Youth United’s Annual Movie Night Fundraiser
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION: Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County’s (Habitat CFC) Youth United program will host its annual Movie Night fundraiser on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield. This year’s event will feature a screening of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on the eve of the film’s 40th anniversary. The evening will also include a short program during which Youth United members will share their experiences with the organization, as well as a raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses. Net proceeds will go toward funding Youth United’s ninth co-sponsored home on Deforest Avenue in Bridgeport, which members will also help to complete. Habitat CFC’s Youth United has chapters at more than 15 schools throughout Coastal Fairfield County and is run by a student-led executive board that meets monthly to plan fundraising and volunteer activities. Since its founding in 2004, Youth United has co-sponsored eight Habitat CFC homes for local families and is now working on its ninth. Youth United members aged 16–18 participate directly in home construction, while younger members contribute through landscaping, painting, fencing, and other projects. A special Youth United tradition, members also build bookcases as gifts for Habitat families. Since 2011, Youth United members have presented the bookcases to families, filled with donated books they collect, as part of each Habitat CFC home dedication ceremony. During the program, Youth United members will share their experiences and explain why Habitat’s mission matters to them. Their remarks will highlight projects including the new homes on Quincy Street in Fairfield and Habitat CFC’s ongoing work throughout the region. Their stories will demonstrate that Youth United is building more than homes—it’s building future leaders. Nate Weiss, Habitat CFC Youth United’s Fundraising Chair, states, “One of the things I love most about Youth United is that we’re not just raising money—we’re helping build homes and stronger communities right here in Fairfield County. Events like Movie Night give students a chance to make a real impact while bringing people together for a fun summer evening. It’s amazing to see how much support we’ve received from local businesses, families, and community members. Every ticket purchased, raffle entered, and sponsorship secured helps us move closer to providing decent, affordable housing for local families. We’re incredibly grateful for that support and excited to continue growing Youth United’s impact.\" Habitat CFC’s Youth United Movie Night is not only a fun way to raise critical funds for affordable housing, but also gives local youth an opportunity to reflect upon their role in sharing Habitat’s mission and the impact they are making in our community.   WHAT: Youth United’s annual Movie Night fundraiser, featuring Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, including a short program and raffle.
