SUMMARY:Musical Postcards: A Transatlantic Journey from Beethoven to Bernstein
LOCATION:
DESCRIPTION: Fairfield University invites the community to the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts on Monday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. to celebrate America250 with a musical journey through time. With a program titled Musical Postcards: A Transatlantic Journey from Beethoven to Bernstein, pianist Joanna Chang, PhD, DMA, presents an evening of Classical repertoire chronologically contextualized alongside major milestones in the building of America. Works by European and American composers will celebrate the interplay of continental influences on the fledgling development of an American tradition of art music. Joanna Chang is assistant professor of music in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, within the John Charles Meditz College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield University. She teaches music history and theory and is a classically trained pianist with doctorates in piano performance and musicology. Her research explores late nineteenth-century composers influenced by Brahms, as well as the presence and interpretation of symphonic works in Hollywood and East Asian film soundtracks.
