DESCRIPTION: Hundreds of Westchester Union Doctors to Rally for a Fair Contract Union Resident Physicians Will Speak Out to Demand Respect, Support to Stay Afloat After months of frustrating negotiations with Westchester Medical Center (WMC), the hospital’s union resident physicians and fellows plan to rally on May 13 to demand adequate support for themselves and patient care. Working at the only level-1 trauma center between New York City and Albany, leaders among the 400-plus doctors say that they struggle to make ends meet while caring for some of the area’s most vulnerable communities. After cancelling numerous bargaining sessions throughout negotiations, Westchester Medical Center Health negotiators are still offering inadequate raises that fail to keep pace with inflation and that leave the physicians far behind many of their peers in the area. Union physicians say this threatens Westchester’s ability to keep attracting talented doctors to care for patients–especially those who reflect the diversity of the region. WHAT: CIR/SEIU resident physicians will come together outside of Westchester Medical Center to demand a fair contract from CEO Dr. David Lubarsky, including fair wages and adequate compensation for travel on the job. WHERE: Outside of Westchester Medical Center at 100 Woods Ave, Valhalla, across the street from Lot 2. WHEN: Tuesday, May 13 at 12pm. The event will run for about 45 minutes and will include a brief speaking portion starting around 12:20. WHO: Resident physicians and fellows at the center of care at WMC, who are members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR/SEIU). They will be joined by NYSNA nurses. The Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) is the largest housestaff union in the United States. A local of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), representing over 40,000 resident physicians and fellows.
