Swanson’s Fish Market, a Fairfield mainstay for 45 years, has closed.

Swanson's Fish MarketThe store at 2439 Black Rock Turnpike had announced earlier this month that it would close on Jan. 1, but instead shuttered a few days following the death of founder Jerry Swanson on Dec. 22. Its website is no longer operative.

“We have been a landmark here in Fairfield County, being voted best seafood for over 30 straight years, so it is a very bittersweet feeling for our family,” Larissa Swanson wrote of the decision to close on Facebook.

A deli will reportedly replace the fish market.
