A federal judge in Hartford sentenced New Canaan resident Elizabeth Monrad to 18 months in prison for her role in an insurance scheme while chief financial officer of Stamford-based General Re Corp.
Monrad was also ordered to pay a $250,000 fine for her role in helping American International Group Inc. artificially boost its financial reserves in 2000 and 2001. Former Gen Re CEO Ronald Ferguson and two other Gen Re executives also face prison terms.
Gen Re is a subsidiary of Omaha, Neb.-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
