Tarrytown-based Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc. has hired Dr. Jay Markowitz as senior vice president of portfolio management.
Markowitz has 15 years of experience as an institutional investor and analyst in the biopharmaceutical sector. He previously served as a U.S. pharmaceutical and biotechnology analyst and portfolio manager at Capital World Investors and a biotechnology analyst and portfolio manager at T. Rowe Price.
In his new position, Markowitz will work with other scientific and development leaders on portfolio evaluation, as well as assessing external opportunities.
George D. Yancopoulos, president and chief scientific officer of Regeneron, said Markowitz is a “powerful addition” to Regeneron’s leadership team at an important time for the company.
“Jay’s deep scientific and medical expertise, coupled with his incredible track record as a leading biopharma portfolio manager and analyst, will help Regeneron further refine our portfolio strategy in order to bring important new medicines to patients as quickly and efficiently as possible,” he said.
Before transitioning to an investment career, Markowitz was an assistant professor and transplant surgeon at Johns Hopkins University. Markowitz received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University and his medical degree from Duke University.
“Regeneron stands out as a company with a robust, diverse pipeline and a deep productive scientific and technological engine,” Markowitz said.
