Despite the government shutdown, the Oct. 15 deadline remains in effect for individuals who requested a six-month extension to file their tax returns.
McGladrey, the tax, assurance and accounting firm, issued the reminder this week.
Individuals and businesses should keep filing their tax returns and making deposits with the IRS as required by law, according to McGladrey.
Some groups still have more time, including members of the military and others serving in Afghanistan or other combat zones who typically have until at least 180 days after they leave the combat zone to both file returns and pay any taxes due.
Considerations have been made for one national disaster: Individuals who extended their returns and reside in parts of Colorado affected by severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides have until Dec. 2 to file and pay.
