Workers’ weekly earnings may have decreased 1.5 percent in the first quarter of 2013, but Fairfield County residents still earn the fourth highest wages in the United States.
The average worker in the county earned $1,878 a week in the first three months of the year, according to a U.S. Department of Labor report. Only New York; Somerset, N.J., and Santa Clara, Calif., ranked higher.
The average weekly wage in the nation’s largest counties was $989 a week.
But when it comes to wage increases, the county ranked among the bottom 16 counties. Wages decreased 1.9 percent between March 2013 and March 2012. Employment growth also ranked among the bottom third with only a 0.7 percent increase.
