Hastings-on-Hudson filmmaker scores Oscar nods

Westchester County will be represented at the 85th annual Academy Awards. Benh Zeitlin, who grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson and attended Hastings High School, was nominated for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay for the movie “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

“Beasts of the Southern Wild” was also nominated for Best Picture, and its 9-year old star, Quvenzhane Wallis, became the youngest person to be nominated for Best Actress.

Zeitlin lived in Queens before moving to Hastings and graduating from Hastings High School, later majoring in film at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn.
