The Chromium Process Co. Inc. has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection from creditors, listing debt of $1.3 million.
The Shelton-based company was founded in 1927 by Norman Tice, and provides metal finishing services for various industries.
The company claims credit for introducing chromium finishes to the automotive industry in 1936, and received a citation for excellence from the U.S. government for its work during World War II.
The company is in its third generation of Tice family ownership.
