Operational expenses and an expanding schedule of programs offered by the club”™s owner, the Church of the Archangels, were cited as reasons behind the decision.
Among the activities offered at the club were group fitness classes, swimming, basketball, badminton, racquetball and a sauna.
The club was originally a part of the Greek Cultural Center that was opened by the church in 1976. In 1995, the Greek Cultural Center opened membership to the public and renamed the facility the Stamford Athletic Club.
