GOP gubernatorial candidate Marc Molinaro picks Julie Killian as running mate

New York governor candidate Marc Molinaro selected former Rye city councilwoman and New York state Senate candidate Julie Killian as his running mate.

In a statement, Molinaro said he was “proud to have Julie as my partner in this campaign to restore New Yorkers’ belief in the future of our state.”

Killian previously served as Rye’s deputy mayor. She also ran twice for a seat in the state Senate, losing once to now-Westchester County Executive George Latimer and most recently to state Sen. Shelley Mayer in a special election last month.

Killian is a mother of five with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s in finance from New York University.

“Marc and I share a vision of New York that is more affordable, accountable and accessible for all families, and I am honored to join his team as a true partner,” Killian said.

Molinaro said in a statement the selection followed a statewide search of more than 20 candidates, adding that the addition of Killian “brings a strong campaigner in the ke suburban battlegrounds.”

Molinaro, the Dutchess county executive, who announced his run for governor in April, made the lieutenant governor announcement just days before New York State Republican Convention will be held in Manhattan where the party will nominate its candidate for governor.
