Boehringer Ingelheim has teamed with Bernie Williams and Minor League Baseball to promote “Breathless,” a campaign to raise awareness of the rare lung disease idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

In this new endeavor, the Ridgefield-based company will coordinate IPF awareness events featuring New York Yankees legend Bernie Williams, whose father passed away from the disease in 2001. The campaign has scheduled 75 “Breathless Blowout” game days at 15 Minor League Baseball stadiums around the country, including the July 11 Eastern League All-Star Game in Trenton, New Jersey, where Williams will rally fans to break the Guinness World Record for the number of bubble gum bubbles blown at once.

“Through our partnership with Minor League Baseball, we aim to take disease recognition to new heights nationally and do our part in increasing the chances of an early and accurate IPF diagnosis for those who may be living with this complicated disease that is all-too-often confused with other more common respiratory illnesses,” said Al Masucci, vice president of the IPF Business Unit at Boehringer Ingelheim.
