The Westport Board of Selectmen has delayed a final decision on a proposal to bring valet parking to the town during the holiday season.

According to a Westport Now report, the Downtown Merchants Association and the Downtown Plan Implementation Committee proposed setting aside 10 parking spaces on Main Street on the Fridays and Sundays beginning Nov. 26 and ending Dec. 24. The vendor Valet Park of America would be in charge of the service, which would also utilize public and private parking lots.

However, the Board of Selectmen delayed its decision on the proposal, citing insurance-related concerns. The board requested that the proposal’s advocates meet with the Westport Attorney’s Office to resolve the matter and amend their plan to enable self-parking in the lots being used by the valet service before a final decision can be made.
