Ardsley-based biotechnology company Acorda Therapeutics Inc. has been named one of the best companies to work for in New York, based on an independent survey by Best Companies Group. Acorda was ranked in the top 10 for the fifth consecutive year.
The company was ranked third among this year’s list of large employers, defined as employing more than 250 people. The rankings are determined by feedback from employees about company culture, benefits and overall job satisfaction.
“A key contributor to our success is the company’s vibrant culture, which emphasizes teamwork, integrity and fun,” Ron Cohen, Acorda’s president and CEO, said in a statement. “Acordans also share a deeply held sense of mission, to develop life-changing therapies for people with neurological disorders. These features make Acorda a great place to build a career.”
Acorda, founded in 1995, develops therapies for people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and heart failure. One of its drugs on the market is Ampyra, a treatment to improve walking in patients with multiple sclerosis.
Best Companies Group manages “best places to work” programs on state, regional and national levels. The award is a partnership of the New York State Society for Human Resource Management, The Business Council of New York State, BCG and Journal Multimedia Corp.
